Runes: First Year: Week 4: Tuesday

Professor Babbling
Tuesday
Gryffindor Time: 1:00
Ravenclaw Time: 2:00
Hufflepuff Time: 9:00
Slytherin Time: 2:00

Hello class. I thought today I would combine a translation of runes with learning the meaning of a new one. So I will hand out these sheet with the words for you to translate. I want you to translate it, then I will give you a brief test on what you just read. You have, say, thirty minutes to translate it.

Thirty minutes are up, so please put your papers away in your bags and come up here for your second one. Once everyone is seated again, you may begin.

1. What rune did you read about?
2. What is its meaning?
3. What would it be used for in a test?

Thank you. That will do. It is time for you to go to your next class, so please hand up your papers so that I may grade them. Your homework is to translate the runic sheet into notes you can read at a glance. Class is dismissed.

Divination: First Year: Week 4: Tuesday

Slytherin Time: 10:00

As the days grow colder, I thought I would bring our studies of the Sight to a warmer area. The study I have in mind is the study of Fire Omens, or Pyromancy. There are many different ways of Pyromancy, but I thought we might start with a combination of Geomancy and Pyromancy. First, look at the bowls of fire in front of you. Notice that they burn by the means of a spell. Notice the lack of fuel. We shall feed them fuel and interpert the resulting flames.

First, I would like this boy here to demonstrate. Now then, dear, it isn't too hard. Just watch closely. Now take a handful of this enchanted wood. Not too big, then, just enough to cup in your palm. Hold it in your palm for thirteen seconds and then toss it into the fire. Boldly, please! Oh, dear. Dear, dear. You see, you should have seen a great burst of flame. Were you asking about your lifespan? Hopefully not. Perhaps we should move onto someone else...

Now please, only one person at a time at a table. Do as you have seen me show the other students. Take a handful, toss it into the flame and keep an open mind. You may leave once you have finished seeing all that you feel that you can see.

Professor Cadmus Quirrell
Tuesday
Gryffindor Time: 11:00
Ravenclaw Time: 10:00
Hufflepuff Time: 1:00
Slytherin Time: 1:00

I have gotten the kind permission of a werewolf who is willing to answer questions on Lycanthropy. He is not able to be present today, but I will compile a letter to him of all your questions. So today you will look through your notes and think up creative questions to ask. Please don't ask anything too personal! I will expect at least two questions from each of you.

Time is up class, so please bring your questions up to me. I may eliminate some that I do not feel appropriate or relevent, but you will be graded on your questions. No homework, and class is dismissed.

Transfiguration: First Year: Week 4: Tuesday

Professor Minerva McGonagall

Ravenclaw Time: 9:00
Hufflepuff Time: 11:00
Slytherin Time: 9:00

I am pleased to tell you that this will be your last class learning how to turn paper into wood and back. I think, also, for variation, we will be starting with wood and turning it into paper. Please come up and take a board from this stack. You should know the spell by now!

Very good! Most of you have succeeded in completing the charm in fifteen minutes. If you don't have paper yet, continue trying. If you do have paper, switch spells to turn it back into board.

It seems that everyone has finally mastered this spell. In celebration, class will be released ten minutes early with no homework.

Professor Vector
Tuesday

Ravenclaw Time: 1:00
Hufflepuff Time: 10:00
Slytherin Time: 11:00

Today we are going to have a quiz. I will provide paper and quills. Please DO NOT look at any charts you have. In fact... there! I've taken down all the charts around the room. Now, if two of you would come up here and distribute quills and paper. Thank you. You may begin.

1. What letters come under 5?
2. What letters come under 3?
3. Using your personal number, what letters come under your number?
4. Explain the root of the word 'Arithmancy'
5. Find the number for the word 'Arithmancy' and show your work.

Time is up! Please bring your quills and paper up to my desk for grading. Your homework is to study any questions you think you may have gotten wrong. Class is dismissed.
