Again, we will be memorizing personality traits. You are doing very well! We will be doing this for this class and next, and then you will be done with 1-9. There is, of course, special numbers like eleven, but that is for when you are more advanced. Maybe next year, maybe the year after that. On to seven!

Sevens are hard working and enjoy challenges. Often they are interested in things that are mysterious. They are serious and studious. Material things are too important for them, they prize originality and imagination They can be insecure, pessimistic, and sarcastic.

Eights are the possibility of great success. They have the potential for great results, but the threat of mighty failure is present from the beginning too. They are practical, ambitious, and hard working, though they can be jealous, greedy, and domineering too.

I hope that you got all those down. No homework today, though I would recommend reading through your past notes. Class is dismissed.

Hello everyone. I would like you to please take out a piece of paper and a quill. We're going to learn about gnomes today. Yes, I know, gnomes are often thought of as common garden pests and not worth studying but we're going to learn about them all the same. Even garden pests are worth studying, for if anything, only by studying a creature can one figure out how to eradicate it.

The gnome is a common garden pest in Great Britain, northern North America, and northern Europe. It lives in burrows underground, preferably in a garden. They've been known to steal food items from houses if there isn't a sufficient protection charm. Such a protection charm is easily cast, however, as gnomes have little magic of their own for breaking enchantments.
Gnomes are about a foot high with overly large feet and head. Their head looks like a potato. Their skin is a medium brown, also quite potato-like. Other than their size and disproportions they are human in appearance.
Getting rid of gnomes permanently is quite difficult. Temporarily, the most common solution is to grasp a gnome by the ankles and swing them around until they're dizzy. Once they're properly disoriented they can be dropped over the garden wall and won't return for some time. A more brutal way of pest control is to use a jarvey, which is very fond of eating gnomes.

All right, your homework is to read the entry of gnomes in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. There is an excellent illustration of a gnome in there. Next class we're going to be trying to come up with a pest control that wards of gnomes. Most likely we shall not succeed but we'll try anyway. So bring in five or six things that might ward off gnomes.
Class dismissed!

Today we will be continuing with more active uses of Wingardium Leviosa. This time, we will be throwing with it. First, I want you -without wands!- to hold out your wand arm. Cup it as if holding an imaginary ball. Now without hitting anyone throw your imaginary ball far and high as you can.
Next, take hold of your wand and place the imaginary ball on the tip of your wand and flick your wand as if you could send it flying. You might think that flicking it as hard as you can would send the ball flying through the window, but it is surprisingly difficult to get it very far at all. However, you should all come over on this side of the room just to be safe.
I am going to give you each a wooden ball. You should stand well away from everyone else. Levitate your ball until it is hovering about wand height. Then give your wand a flick and try toss your ball away from you. Don't be disappointed by how far you get it at first. You will improve with time. You have forty minutes to practice.

Settle down now class! Your time is up. I don't think that you should practice this spell in the Common rooms, however you should try it outside and well away from the castle. If you need medical attention due to a ball being thrown at you, please go see Madam Pomfrey. She will be happy to patch you up. Off you go now, to your next class!
