Hello class. Today we will begin with a cheering potion. As always, the instructions are on the blackboard. The supply closet was recently restocked so don't say that we are out of something or I personally will make certain you get detention.

Potion's Black Board
Cheering Potion
Ingredients:
Fire mint
2 pieces Mandrake root
½ a Trolls finger, crushed
Petrified Fairy's Tears
Moonflower
Water
Your favorite power stone
Small power stones
Instructions:
Measure out a 3/4 a cup of water and put it in your cauldron. Add the mandrake root and 1/4 tsp scoop of fire mint. Stir. Put in two pinches moonflower at the same time as three fairy's tears. Bring to a boil, and then simmer for one minute. Remove from the flames. Next, add a 1/8 teaspoon scoop of small power stones and your favorite power stone. To mix, add another 3/4 cup of water. You now have a cheering potion! Smell it to lift your spirits. After you are done with the potion, fish out the power stone-it can be used again, strain out the large hunks and throw them away and pour the rest of the potion down the drain.

Alright class. Your time is up. Please bottle some of your potion for grading and bring that bottle and the cloth up. Your homework is below.

Homework
Explain why Fairy's Tears are conteracted by moonflower

We will be returning to the pumpkins today. I have put a darkening spell around them so that you can see them in their splendor. Follow me please!

There they are. You can see the glowing outline of where you cut. Today your jobs will be to remove the cut sections. Obviously, you will not be using the same knives as last time! These pumpkins are six feet tall after all. To remove the pieces, take these sheets of metal and wedge it into one of the cracks. You should start at the bottom. Slide the metal in and press on the edge. The piece should start to move. Do this on all sides, until the piece slides out.

Now that everyone has a piece out, I want you to climb in. The pumpkin is hollow, and remarkably dry, so you don't have to get all slimy. Climb in and push on all the pieces until they come out.

Once your pieces are out, use the levitating spell that Professor Flitwick taught you. Levitate the pieces and move them over to that compost pile. Class time is almost over, so you should hurry.

Time is up, class! Later I will put a preserving spell on these fine pumpkins so that they will stay firm until the feast. See you next class.

Gryffindor Time: 1:00
Ravenclaw Time: 10:00
Hufflepuff Time: 11:00
Slytherin Time: 10:00
Because I do not know if all of you know the history of Hogwarts, that is what we will be studying next, starting with the four founders.

Godric Gryffindor was one of the most accomplished dueller of his time and the original owner of the Sorting Hat. He supported letting muggles into Hogwarts. He had a famous enemity with Salazar Slytherin. His house is championed as brave.
Salazar Slytherin, who was a parselmouth. Salazar did not like the idea of letting muggles learn with the magical students. His house is cunning and persistant.
Rowena Ravenclaw was the wisest witch of her time. She chose the students who had a ready wit and loved learning.
Helga Hufflepuff was accepting of anyone, and treated them equally. She prized the traits of loyalty and being unafraid of toil.

Homework: Go to JK Rowling's site and find the pictures of each founder. Also, write a report on the founder of your house.

Wands out, please. I need you to prove that each of you can do the spells to turn a needle into a match and back. Please take your match and wand and line up in front of my desk. You will have three tries for it to count. Three at a time.

You all passed well enough, however those of you who didn't get it on the second try will need to practice tonight as well as the homework that I will give you at the end of class.
Now you will be learning a new spell. Since it is your second spell, it is another easy one. You will be turning paper into wood. I don't expect any of you will be managing more then cardboard, but you need to start somewhere. Please take out a sheet of paper, not parchment. The spell is ortinalis. You may begin. I will tell you when class is over. It will be in about half an hour.

Paper away please. If any of your sheets are too heavy and wood like, please bring them up to me and I will restore them to their original state. Your homework is to practice. But please remember to use paper. Parchment is not pleasant when this spell is used on it. Also, I would like you to think of a spell that you would like to learn. Class is dismissed.

Today is the day the you will learn the last eight. Please take out your copy of the runic alphabet and consentrate on the last eight runes, writing things with them, trying to remember them. At first, use your sheet, then try without. Once you feel that you have them down pretty well, you can use the whole alphabet.

Your attention please! It is now time for you to translate this class's translation. You have about half an hour. Once the whole scroll is translated, please follow the instructions on it. Try without looking at your sheet unless you really need to.

Half an hour is up. Please pull away your quills and turn towards me. Your homework will be to write me a letter in runic without looking at your sheet. I will be able to decipher your letter, never fear. Class, you are dismissed.

Professor Quirrell
Thursday
Gryffindor Time: 11:00
Ravenclaw Time: 1:00
Hufflepuff Time: 9:00
Slytherin Time: 1:00
Since we have now covered vampires, I think that I want you to study werewolves next. I do not know how much each of you knows about werewolves, so I will start at the beginning.
A werewolf is a human that is forced to change into a blood thirsty wolf at every full moon. Most people do not wish such a transformation and consider it shameful and something to be hidden. It is true that most werewolves have a harder time getting jobs because people are afraid that they may be bitten by their employees.
Werewolves are only as dangerous as any other human on any other day than the full moon. Once the light of the full moon falls on them, then they become a full fledged monster.
Lycanthropy, the term for the condition of being a werewolf, is contagious through bites and occationally heritage. If you are bitten on any other day than the full moon, however, you may become a bit wolfish, but not be a fully fledged werewolf.

Please put away your notes. Your homework is to read about the werewolf in a copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and read this link about werewolves. Also, copy out the definition of werewolf and lycanthropy from a dictionary. Class is dismissed.

Muggle Studies: First Year: Week 2: Wednesday

Professor Charity Burbage
Wednesday
Gryffindor Time: 10:00
Ravenclaw Time: 11:00
Hufflepuff Time: 9:00
Slytherin Time: 11:00
Welcome back, class! I am glad to see you all dressed in muggle clothing. I thought that we should study muggle transportation first. Please take out a muggle pen and paper.
The most common way is the automobile or car. Here and here are some photos of cars.
Another way muggles travel is by airplane. Airplanes are large airships that noisly rumble through the sky. It is not quite certain how these airplanes stay up without magic. There is a picture of an airplane here.
One more popular way for muggles to travel is by train. You have ridden on one before, obviously. It was the Hogwarts Express. While you were at Kings Cross, did you notice the muggle trains? I want you to turn to your neighbor and tell them about one thing you noticed while in Kings Cross about muggle trains.

We now have just enough time for you to get back into your uniforms before your next class. Please put away your pen and paper. Your Homework is either to compare the car, plane or train to the wizarding equivalent or to write a brief history of the car, plane or train. Class is dismissed.

Care of Magical Creatures: First Year: Week 2: Wednesday

Professor Kettleburn
Wednesday
Gryffindor Time: 11:00
Ravenclaw Time: 10:00
Hufflepuff Time: 10:00
Slytherin Time: 9:00
As you all should have noticed, the two creatures that we have studied so far are both very different. One lives in water, while the other lives in air. To see how different they both are, I want you to make a comparison chart. On a scroll, make three even columns. Title the one on the far left 'Characteristics', the middle 'Augurey' and the last 'Hippocamus'.
Now you have to list characteristics and if they have them, and if they do, how many. For example, write 'Wings' in column one, 'Two' in the Augurey Column, and 'None' in the Hippocampus column. Do this for as many characteristics as you can.

Quills away, class. To help you understand why we did this, I want you to compile a report on how Augurys and Hippocampus are different. You see, when you don't know what something is, if you have a hunch on what it might be, you make a comparison list and see if most things check out. That is all, class.

Professor Filius Flitwick
Wednesday
Gryffindor Time: 9:00
Ravenclaw Time: 9:00
Hufflepuff Time: 11:00
Slytherin Time: 10:00
Wands out! I want to see you do 'flick, swish, point'. Well done, class, well done! I believe that you may be ready to truly start working on some spells! The one that we will begin with is the charm to make things fly. The incantation for it is 'Wingardium Leviosa'. Repeat after me. "Wingardium Leviosa!" Again! "Wingardium Leviosa!" One more time! This time, imagine the feather in front of you flying while you say the incantation. "Wingardium Leviosa!"
Nicely done! Now, don't forget the nice wrist movement we've been practicing! For this spell, you only need to use swish and flick. And saying the magic words properly is very important, too - never forget Wizard Baruffio who said 's' instead of 'f' and found himself on the floor with a buffalo on his chest. Now go ahead, give it a try. I'll tell you when class is over.

That's the bell, class. Please put your wands away and go on to your next class. Remember, practice makes perfect.

I though that it would be good to start out tonights lesson with a story. This story goes with the
constellation that we will find afterwards. There are two different legends, the Roman legend and the Greek legends. These legends are about a dragon. First, the Roman legend.

The Roman legend calls this dragon Ladon and he guarded the golden apples on a tree in a garden tended by the Hesperides, the daughters of Atlas. Hercules was sent to obtain the apples while under pledge to Eurystheus. He learned from Nereus that he could not pluck the apples himself, but must get help from Atlas. Hercules shot and killed Ladon with an arrow, making way for Atlas to enter and pluck the golden apples. The goddess Hera was greatly distressed by the death of Ladon and placed the dragon in the heavens as a constellation.

A Greek legend tells the story of Draco as a horrible dragon that guarded a sacred spring and slew the soldiers of Cadmus (first king of Thebes) who had been sent to gather water. Cadmus then fought the dragon and won,. After the dragon died, Athena appeared and told Cadmus to sow the ground with the creature's teeth. The teeth immediately sprang up as a group of armed soldiers who helped Cadmus found Thebes.

We call this constellation Draco. You will find it half wrapped around the Little Dipper. If you will please go up the stairs and outside, we will try to find Draco. Once you have found him, please copy down the constellation and surrounding constellations. When you are finished, please turn in your star chart and return to your dormitory. There will be no homework.

Runes: First Year: Week 2: Tuesday

Professor Babbling
Tuesday
Gryffindor Time: 1:00
Ravenclaw Time: 2:00
Hufflepuff Time: 9:00
Slytherin Time: 2:00
Please take out your homework, I will be coming around to collect it.
Good, I'm glad you all turned in something. I hope that you find that it is becoming easier to read and write runic.
Again, I want you to get out your sheet and write again. This time you will be writing using the first and second row. Start with your sheet at first, then try to do it without. Once you have had some general practice, write a note to someone in this classroom. Don't make it too long, just a few sentences.

Now I would like you to look up here. Please get out a fresh piece of parchment and translate the scroll that I will place on your desk. I did write it in a way that makes more sense than last time, but it doesn't really make much sense. Once you have translated your scroll, translate any notes you recieved, but don't write a reply.

Your half hour is up. Please look up here. When I say you are dismissed, pack up. But before you do, I want you to note that your Homework is to try to write out all of the alphabet that we have learned so far without looking at your sheet. Don't even look at your sheet to see if you got it right. I want you to turn in your first attempt, uncorrected. Class is dismissed.

Defense Against the Dark Arts: First Year: Week 2: Tuesday

Today we will be continuing our study of vamipres with a lesson on methods of preventing vampires. While it is impossible to reverse vampirism, it is possible to prevent contamination from a vampire bite. As you will find in your Fiendish Field Guide
"Complex diabolic pacts and certain obscure black magic rites have been known to create vampires; evil sorcerers and some lycanthropes that have died may rise again to become vampires; extremely evil men (or women) who die while committing an evil act may return as vampires. The most common and sure-fire method of becoming a vampire is to die from a vampire bite. The sanguinary bite (or "kiss") of a vampire is its method of perpetuating its breed, and those rising from the dead to become vampires are subject to the will of the vampire that originally bit him/her. The bite of the vampire is usually detected as two small but swollen puncture wounds; often referred to as "the Seal of Dracula"."
While not entirely accurate in the habits of the vampire, the Fiendish Field Guide is correct in this respect. The simplest way to prevent someone to become a vampire is to keep them alive after they have been bitten. As vampires are 'living dead', if someone doesn't die, they obviously cannot become a vampire. Many potions are useful, such as the Draught of Living Death, which will suspend the process of death by vampire bite. Wolfsbane potion is also useful in preventing syptoms appearing.

Homework: Explain in your own words why a person does not always become a vampire even if they are bitten.

Hello, my dears... If you will recall, we where working on learning certain key signs. While I do find memorization a bore, and I am sure that you do agree, it is quite nessecary. If, say, you suddenly saw a flag in the bottom of your tea, then you will wish to know immediately whether this is good or bad. In fact, you should know then that you are in grave danger.

Please take out a quill and write out what you think each one means.
The Arrow
The Coin
The Circle
The Owl
The Triangle

I will take your scrolls of the class. Please get out a new piece of parchment and copy down these signs:
The Book-Learning
The Cat-Treachery
The Fish-News from Abroad
The Sun-Continued Happiness
The Wings-News
The Cross-Trouble on the Way

I did not have you research them, because I wanted to have you practice your tea leaf reading. When you put your scrolls away, please take a cup from the shelf and pour yourself a cup of tea. You should remember how it is done... the three swirls with your left hand... the three taps...
If any of your signs in your cup are ones that we have studied, try to remember them before looking them up. You have half an hour...

Half an hour is up. Please return cups gently to the sink over there. You have no homework other than to memorize your signs. Until next time...

If everyone would please look up here... Thank you. Now below is the diagram for turning your match into a needle. The spell is scipioacus. When you have succeed in transfiguring a match, try to turn it back into a needle.

The bell has rung, so if everyone would look up here I will tell you your Homework. You are to practice turning your match to a needle and back again. That is all. You are dismissed.

4 Cinnamon, Candy
5 Pasta
6 Bread, Wheat, Toffee, Juice, Yam, Noodles,
7 Tofu, Tortillia, Burger, tea
8 Coffee, Water, Ham
9 Beef, Cheese

Now, pull out a new sheet. Draw in the middle a circle. In that circle, write your name and your heart, social and character numbers. Draw five lines coming off it. Title one food, one number, one color, one animals, and the last wand. Under food, write the foods that correspond with your number, do the same under numer, writing the one that exactly corresponds with all your numbers added.
Now take out yet another sheet and write down ten animals. Figure their number and write down all that are compatible with your number. If none are, write down ten more and figure. Repeat this until you have one that matches your number.

Quills down please. You do not have any homework. Class is dismissed.

I would like you to all follow be down to the lake. I fear that this lesson cannot take too long, for the giant squid is not liking the newest inhabitant, and I will need to help them get along.

Just a moment. I'll dive in to call him up. Alright, everyone gather around. This is a hippocampus or a merhorse. I saw him a few days ago. Apparently, the merpeople of this lake captured him and brought him here to ride. He is just barely out of the egg, a regular tadfoal. Normally, they live in the Mediterranean, but this one seems to be surviving just fine. I'm going to get out now and bring him near to you. He won't come out as his second half is fish. You can come up now, and pet him.

He is getting very restless, as you can see. If the last of you would come up and touch him... Alright. Now watch him go. If you look close enough, you should be able to see the merpeople reclaiming him. Off you go. No homework tonight!

Today we will work with a cooling draught. As always, the instructions are on the blackboard. I felt that last potion was a bit callenging for you, so today's is without fire. I certainly hope that you can make this simple potion go right. I was very disappointed with last classes results.

Potions Black Board
Cooling Potions
2 Gnome teeth, chopped
1 beetle eye
Fire mint
Power stone
Water
2 bird’s eyes
Instructions: Measure out 1 cup of cold water. Put it in your cauldron. Drop in a bird’s eye. Squish the beetle eye and add that too. Stir. Next add a small scoop of fire mint. Crush the second bird’s eye and add. Then add the gnome teeth and add 2 more teaspoons of water. Stir five times and let sit for 5 minutes. While the potion is soaking, choose four powerstones, two of them about an inch across and the other two about a quarter of an inch round. When the potion is finished soaking, drop the powerstones in and stir twenty times in opposite directions slowly. When the potion has stopped swirling, plunge in your hands and retrieve the stones. The smaller ones should be set behind your ears, right beneath the lobe, while the larger ones are meant to be set on your wrists. You should be colder soon. If the effects wear off, soak them once more.

Alright class. Your time is up. Bottle some of your potion for grading and bring that bottle up to me. Put in it one of the stones. Your homework is below.

I now would like everyone to bring their plant up to me to prove that it is still alive.

Because it is twenty-five days to Halloween, I thought that you would enjoy learning about one of the plants we use to decorate the Great Hall. There is a separate bed for these plants because they are so big. Please take one of these bags and follow me.

Most people recognize these plants. They are pumpkins. However, these are no ordinary pumpkins. These ones will grow to a tremendous size and glow from the inside. Your job will be to cut a design into them and mulch them so that they grow big. You will be drawing the design first. Please open your bag and take out everything. You will find a knife, a pad of paper, a quill and a bottle of ink. You can put back the knife, it isn't used until later.
Sketch several ideas for the Jack o' Lantern you will be making. It doesn't have to be a face. It can be anything. Sketch until you have an idea you like. You have ten minutes.

Quills down, please. Tear off the sheet of paper with your finished drawing and put everything else back in your bag. Once you have done that, please choose a pumpkin and stand beside it. I will come around and transfer your design to the pumpkin. Once it is transferred, take you knife and cut through all the lines, but don't take out the pieces. You have twenty minutes.

Twenty minutes are up, so I hope that your design is cut. Now you will take a wheelbarrow and fill it with this mulch. Set the mulch all around your pumpkin and it's plant. This mulch is a combination of dragon dung, leaves and enchanted bark. It will help your pumpkin to grow larger than normal.

Very good work, everyone. If you step back, you will see that your pumpkin has grown quite a bit. We will be visiting them at a later class, but for now, head back to the castle early so that you can wash up before your next class. You are dismissed.

Although the Werewolf has no sense of obeying laws, there are rules stating when and how werewolves can be restrained. Created in 1637, the Werewolf Code of Conduct addresses not the werewolf, but the witch or wizard who encounters them. For instance, if a witch or wizard comes across a werewolf who threatens to bite, the witch or wizard is allowed to constrain the werewolf in any possible way, but is not allowed to kill the offending beast. Also, no one is allow to constrain an untranformed werewolf who is in their human form in any way or for any reason that they wouldn't use on a ordinary person.
The Werewolf Code of Conduct also contains a clause stating rules that a person who is a werewolf but untransformed must obey. These include having to carry identification on hand at all times so that if they ever bite or injure another, the bites can be properly treated.
A current version of the Code of Conduct is being reviewed.

Now, class, I want you to each step up and demonstrate your homework, 'swish, point'.
I'm very glad that you all practiced and your wand work is definitely improving. I was thinking that today would be a good day to begin the last movement before you learn a spell. The last movement you are going to learn is 'flick'. Start with your wand in the position that you start 'point' in. In a quick movement, let your wand fall a few inches, then quickly bring it back up, just as if you are getting rid of a fly on the end. Remember that all movement should be from the wrist. Practice that movement until it is one quick tap.

Now that you all know 'swish', 'point', and 'flick', I'm going to combine them. Do the movement of 'flick, swish, point'. Do this over and over until you can do it effortlessly and automatically.

OK class, I hear the bell. You may put your wands away and your Homework is to practice 'flick, swish, point'. Also practice each one separately and try your own combinations.
