To refresh your memory on the runes we have been studying, I would like you to select one and write a report on it. Use your notes and any other sources you can find. You may begin.
Time is up. If you haven't finished your report, please keep it for homework, otherwise turn it in to me for review and correction. Thank you and class is dismissed.

Runes: First Year: Week 4: Thursday
Professor Babbling
Thursday
Gryffindor Time: 2:00
Ravenclaw Time: 9:00
Hufflepuff Time: 10:00
Slytherin Time: 11:00
Before your brains go into break mode, I would like you to learn two more runes: Hagalaz and Jera. Quills and parchment out and please copy what is on the blackboard.
Jera
Harvest
Use to create positive, lasting change.
If found in a reading, it means that a project is going well and success comes to those who wait for it. Do not rush your project and all will be well.
If found reversed in a reading, it means that you are wandering aimlessly in a project, you need to set deadlines and goals.
Hagalaz
Also known as: Hagal
Delays, Upheaval, Risks
Can be used to turn someone's past against them
If you draw this rune, expect a great upheaval in your life. It may be good, however. It may an awakening to greater knowledge or a great idea. Be prepared, though, that this will not be an easy time for you.
There you have them! Quills down, then, and parchments away. Your homework is to simply review all the runes you have learnt so far and to try to not forget the Runic Alphabet over winter break. Class is dismissed for the year.

Hello class. I thought today I would combine a translation of runes with learning the meaning of a new one. So I will hand out these sheet with the words for you to translate. I want you to translate it, then I will give you a brief test on what you just read. You have, say, thirty minutes to translate it.
Thirty minutes are up, so please put your papers away in your bags and come up here for your second one. Once everyone is seated again, you may begin.
1. What rune did you read about?
2. What is its meaning?
3. What would it be used for in a test?
Thank you. That will do. It is time for you to go to your next class, so please hand up your papers so that I may grade them. Your homework is to translate the runic sheet into notes you can read at a glance. Class is dismissed.

Today we will be studying another rune that is most commonly called Dagaz. Here is the summory of Dagaz:
Dagaz is also known as Daeg. If it is drawn in a runic reading, then generally the person is feeling the need to be invisble. If it is draw reverse, then the person is feeling the need to be less invisble. You can use this rune as a way to travel unnoticed. Oddly enough, this rune has the main meaning breakthrough.
Have you finished writing your notes? Well, then, here is the next one, Uruz.
Uruz is also known as Ur. It stands for strength, determinations, perservance, courage, health, and assertivness. It is a rune that should be used in all healings. When drawn in a reading, the person who is being read for should be prepared for opportunity disguised as loss. If drawn in reverse, the person being read for should look deep with in themselves to see if they have been missing these opportunities in the set backs.
Once you finish on this one, I want you to get your notes on Mannaz as well. Pretend that you have drawn Mannaz, Dagaz, and Uruz for the past, present, and future. Write a report telling me how you would plan for the future and how you would interpret it.
It is ten minutes until your next class. Please put your quills away. If you have completed your report, please hand it up. If you haven't, finish it for homework. Off you go!

Now that you have learned how to write in runic, I think that it is time for you to learn to what certain runes mean. Please take out a quill and copy down this sign:
Man or Mannaz
The Self
Modesty, Thought, Alturism, Trust
If someone draws this rune, it means that they need to know their self more. They need to stop and reflect. Also, it may mean that they need to trust more and be more modest.
I think that we will just start with one today so that I can explain it.
First, the names. One name is the Elder Futhark Name and the other is a newer name. On this one, Man is the Elder Futhark Name and Mannaz is the newer name. It is handy to know both names.
Second, this is the rune summed up into one or two words.
Next, I expanded on the main meaning.
Last, this is what I think it would mean if I drew this rune for someone. You'll learn how to do that later. It would mean the same thing if you drew the rune for yourself, but then you would know exactly where it applied to.
I want you to memorize this rune, because I will be giving you at least one more next class. Homework is to memorize Mannaz. Class is dismissed.

Thursday
Gryffindor Time: 2:00
Ravenclaw Time: 9:00
Hufflepuff Time: 10:00
Slytherin Time: 11:00
Today is the day the you will learn the last eight. Please take out your copy of the runic alphabet and consentrate on the last eight runes, writing things with them, trying to remember them. At first, use your sheet, then try without. Once you feel that you have them down pretty well, you can use the whole alphabet.

Your attention please! It is now time for you to translate this class's translation. You have about half an hour. Once the whole scroll is translated, please follow the instructions on it. Try without looking at your sheet unless you really need to.
Half an hour is up. Please pull away your quills and turn towards me. Your homework will be to write me a letter in runic without looking at your sheet. I will be able to decipher your letter, never fear. Class, you are dismissed.

Please take out your homework, I will be coming around to collect it.
Good, I'm glad you all turned in something. I hope that you find that it is becoming easier to read and write runic.
Again, I want you to get out your sheet and write again. This time you will be writing using the first and second row. Start with your sheet at first, then try to do it without. Once you have had some general practice, write a note to someone in this classroom. Don't make it too long, just a few sentences.

Now I would like you to look up here. Please get out a fresh piece of parchment and translate the scroll that I will place on your desk. I did write it in a way that makes more sense than last time, but it doesn't really make much sense. Once you have translated your scroll, translate any notes you recieved, but don't write a reply.
Your half hour is up. Please look up here. When I say you are dismissed, pack up. But before you do, I want you to note that your Homework is to try to write out all of the alphabet that we have learned so far without looking at your sheet. Don't even look at your sheet to see if you got it right. I want you to turn in your first attempt, uncorrected. Class is dismissed.

Welcome back, class. Please take out you sheet of runes and put it in front of you. Now I want you to practice writing words using the first nine runes. At first, use your sheet, but as you get better, try it without your sheet. I will give you about twenty minutes to do this.

Please look back up here, class. I will now give you each a scroll to translate. Try to do it without looking at your sheet, but if you really cannot remember a letter, you may look.
I do know that these sentences are nonsense, but they are all formed from the first nine letters of the alphabet. As always, click on the image to get a better view.
If I could have your attention please! I want you to hand in both your own sentences and your translations. Your Homework is to write five more sentences in runic using the first nine letters. Next week we will move onto the next nine. Class is dismissed.

Hello class! The first thing that you need to learn is the legend of how runes came to be. Please take out your books and read pages 5-9

To view pages better, click on them.
Now,
reread the story of Odin and take notes this time, please.
If you are done, class, I need you to look this way. We don't have much more time, so I would like you to please copy out the runes on this scroll and save it, for you will need to memorize them.
That is the bell. Your
Homework is to start memorizing your runes and rewrite the story of Odin for me.
Thank you, Rune Scripts for the story of Odin.

Supply List
Of course I don't require that you have everything, but some classes will be much easier if you have the correct supplies. Of all the supplies below, I would say the most necessary would be either the wand or quill and parchment
